Walter H. Andrus, Jr. (1920-2015) was a prominent figure in the field of UFOlogy and the long-time leader of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), one of the largest and most respected civilian UFO investigative organizations in the world. His dedication and contributions to the study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were instrumental in advancing the field and promoting a systematic approach to UFO investigation and research.
Andrus founded MUFON in 1969, following his involvement with the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO). Under his leadership, MUFON grew to become a significant organization in UFO research, with a large network of volunteers and investigators dedicated to examining UFO sightings and collecting data on UFO phenomena. MUFON’s approach emphasized scientific methodology and aimed to objectively and thoroughly investigate UFO reports.
During his tenure as the director of MUFON, Andrus helped to standardize the methods used for investigating UFO sightings and encouraged cooperation and information sharing among various UFO research groups and individuals. He also oversaw the publication of the MUFON Journal, a key source of information, research findings, and discussion in the UFO community.
